Henry G. Virmond letter : San Diego, Calif., to William Dana, Santa Barbara, Calif., 1830 July 20.

Handwritten letter from a German merchant to a business acquaintance giving details of his trip aboard the ship Leonor from Alcapulco, Mexico to San Diego, California including passenger names, the birth of a baby boy on board, and the presence of soldiers escorting convicts. Also includes account details on the goods and hardware he had taken on consignment from Dana and goods he is delivering to Dana for sale in Santa Barbara. The letter and goods are being forwarded to Dana in Santa Barbara by Captain Fitch of the same ship. The letter is signed with Virmond's equivalent Spanish name, Enrique G. Virmond, and is similarly addressed on the verso of page 2 to Senor Don Guillermo Dana. Also includes typescript transcription of the letter.
